How to set up active mode

General
- There are many benefits in using the active mode:
- You get 30-50% more search results
- In passive mode you get max 5 search results per user (max 10 in active mode)
- In passive mode you can’t download from other passive users (less sources and more downloaders from active users --> sources have less free slots available --> speeds are worse)
- In several hubs passive users can’t search or download and some hubs don’t allow passive users to enter at all
- Hubs limit the maximum search results being sent to passive users. Usually a user in passive mode can receive 100 search results at most but the limit can be also lower (0-100 results).
- Always test whether the active mode is working or not by using a keyword Windows when searching. If you get search results, the settings are correct. Also try downloading a file or a filelist.

- Select the item 1 and copy the IP-address below and paste it to the field 2:
You can also try leaving the IP field blank. If you have a dynamic IP address, you must update it to the field always when it has been changed. You get your IP address by typing +myip in the mainchat (works almost in all hubs).
- You can leave the port fields (3) blank, if you haven’t opened any from your firewall or haven’t forwarded them from the router. You may also choose a random port number.
Port tester
PLEASE NOTE! The program which uses the port must be open when using the port tester and using the correct port. The test is not 100% reliable and F-Secure products, for example, cause wrong results.If you think that you have made all the settings correct and the test still shows that the port is closed, you should also try to search and/or download.
- With the port tester below you may test, whether the used port is open or not. - If the port was open, you only need allow dc++ to access internet from the firewall. If the port is closed, you probably have NAT enabled. Instructions for forwarding ports can be found later on this page.
- After this, try searching in the client with a keyword Windows and try to download filelists from the users. Make sure that you are in hubs where searching/downloading hasn’t been disabled.

Allowing DC++from a software firewall
The Windows firewall should let DC++ to work properly if you clicked Unblock in the popup window when you started the program for the first. If you didn’t do that or you aren’t sure, choose the correct Windows version from below and follow the instructions. This is not required if you have disabled the Windows firewall.

Tarkista, onko NAT päällä
If the active mode still doesn’t work, you probably have NAT enabled in your router.

Jatka NAT:in ollessa päällä seuraavaan kohtaan. Jos NAT ei ole päällä, edellisiä kohtia ei todennäköisesti ole tehty oikein. On myös mahdollista, että et pysty käyttämään aktiivitilaa (katso viimeinen osio).
Porttien uudelleenohjaus NAT:ia käytettäessä
You must forward the ports from the settings of your router if you have NAT enabled. Jos et tiedä modeemisi mallia, se todennäköisesti lukee itse laitteessa. Seuraavassa on ohjeita porttien avaamiseen.
Lähes kaikkiin muihin modeemeihin löytyy ohje täältä. Valitse listalta modeemisi malli (tai lähes sama malli) ja napsauta seuraavana aukeavalta ohjelmien listalta DC++. Seuraavana eteesi aukeaa itse ohjeet. Kirjoita "Enter Port Here" laatikkoon 1412 (Älä paina Enteriä!) ja "Enter Static IP Address" -laatikkoon sisäinen IP-osoite (älä paina vieläkään Enteriä).
Huom. Sisäinen IP on yleensä muodossa 192.168.0.xxx tai 10.0.0.xxx, eli se ei ole sama kuin DC:n asetuksissa. Löydät sisäisen IP-osoitteen edellisen kohdan ohjeita noudattamalla. Toimi ohjeiden mukaan ja muista tallettaa asetukset. Modeemi saattaa buutata tallennuksen jälkeen.
Tarkista porttien avaamisen jälkeen, että onko portti auki osiosta Portin avoimuuden tarkistaminen ja testaa hakemista tai tiedostolistojen lataamista. Jos portti ole vieläkään auki, et ole todennäköisesti tehnyt jotain vaihetta oikein. On myös mahdollista, että et pysty käyttämään aktiivitilaa (katso seuraava osio).
If the active mode still doesn't work
If the active mode is still not working, it may be caused by your ISP. This is common, for example, in public WLAN networks, some universities and with a connection shared to several apartments. Then you just must use passive mode and bear its disadvantages or change the ISP.
